Director – Efstratios “Yianni” Magoulias

In the spring of 2013, Efstratios “Yianni” Magoulias offered the stewards of our parish an opportunity to learn Byzantine chant. The class was a brief, but practical, introduction to the eight tones of Byzantine music used in the Greek Orthodox Church. The purpose was to educate parishioners interested in learning Byzantine music.

The second class in the “Byzantine Chant” series will begin on Sunday, October 13, 2013. This class will build on “An Introduction to Byzantine Music,” by using the students’ knowledge of Byzantine notation to read and chant parts of the Orthros service including: Theos Kyrios, the Apolitikia, and potentially the Katavasiais and Tin Timiotera in their respective tones. Classes will be on Sundays after services for approximately one to one and a half hours. For more information, please contact the Church Office.
